The fireworks of explosive comments from Ann Coulter, Meghan McCain and Laura Ingraham aimed at fellow republicans demonstrate the inevitability of all out war between progressive and conservative factions for controll of the republican party.
Conservative Ann Coultre devastated the McCain faction when she said, “I would rather vote for Hillary Clinton than John McCain.” Meghan McCain, (who supports stem cell research, gay marriage and describes herself as a progressive republican), campaigned for her father and blasted Coulter saying, “I find her offensive, radical, insulting and confusing all at the same time. She also said, Coultre represents bad stereotypes of republican women.
Conservative talk radio pundit Laura Ingraham insulted Meghan McCain with derogatory shots aimed at McCains body weight in describing McCain as a “plus size.” McCain fired back saying Laura Ingraham can “Kiss my fat ass.” McCain who claims to presently be a size 8 also said, “I am not overweight in the least - But even if I were overweight, I expected substantive criticism from conservative pundits for my views. That is the nature of political discourse, and my intent was to generate discussions about the current problems facing the republican party.
McCain says she is trying to be a good role model for a new generation of republican women and describes Coultre as being a bad role model for republican woman.

Unfortunately Coulter is correct. There is little difference between the Republican and Democratic parties. Clinton is more true to her party than McCain. You might as well have voted for Obama or Clinton as you would get about the same with McCain. The difference as a Republican voting for McCain you will feel cheated as many people who voted for Bush did. As a Democrat voting for Clinton or Obama you will get what you voted for.
I agree with you. There is little difference between the two major parties these days (especially regarding the bailout of AIG and the other financial institutions). The Obama administration is continuing the policies of the Bush administration. Teddy Roosevelt broke up the giant corporate monopolies because those monopolies had become too big for the public good (and Roosevelt also believed their power might rival his power).
Perhaps today’s corporations like AIG and General Motors which are supposedly “too big to fail” have become dangerously too big for the public good. I wonder what Teddy Roosevelt would think. If Roosevelt was president today, I wonder if he would have let those corporations go into bankruptcy where they could be broken up into smaller, less dangerous entities.
I was disappointed yesterday, when Laura Ingraham (while standing in for Bill O’Reilly on the O’Reilly factor T.V. show), tried to blame the public outrage (caused by her derisive remarks about Meghan McCain) on a “left wing conspiracy.” Ingraham’s strategy reminded me of Hillary Clinton’s bad decision to blame attacks on Bill Clinton’s denial of the Monica Lewinsky affair as a “right wing conspiracy.” Ingraham should have just explained her comments as a regrettable attempt at humor and offered an appropriate apology for any unintended insult regarding McCain. Instead of suppressing the controversy with an apology, Ingraham made it much worse by trying to blame it on the liberal left and when that didn’t work, by denying that she even made the comments in the first place! Unfortunately for Ingraham, anyone who listens to a recording of her subject radio broadcast will hear Ingraham not only make fun of McCains’ physical appearance but also ridicule McCain as an airhead, silly valley girl type of ignoramus.
McCain certainly isn’t blaming Ingraham’s remarks on the liberal left. McCain is blaming the remarks on the poor judgment of the person (Ingraham) who made the remarks. In McCain’s article, “Quit Talking About My Weight, Laura Ingraham,” McCain writes, “Even though Ingraham is more than 20 years older than and has been a political pundit for longer, almost, than I have been alive, she responded in a form that was embarrassing to herself and to any woman listening to her radio program who is not a size zero.”
While I agree with some of McCain’s political views and strongly disagree with others, I think she is genuine, articulate and deserves to be treated with respect (especially by the political media).
I hate lame humor and lame excuses. Recently, Bill O’Reilly, in an ill-fated attempt at humor referred to veteran journalist Helen Thomas as “the wicked witch of the East.” When complaints erupted, O’Reilly tried to defend his comments by explaining that he was only referring to the lady’s voice and not to her appearance (which wasn’t very believable). Although he didn’t apologize, O’Reilly did send a bouquet of flowers to Helen Thomas in an effort to compensate for any damage inflicted.
When President Obama appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, he mentioned his mediocre bowling score of 129. Then, in an attempt at humor, Obama compared his bowling skills to those who compete in the Special Olympics. Complaints soon followed but at least Obama apologized. Occasionally, Obama is actually funny (and to his credit, he usually sticks to self-depreciating humor), but his comedic skills are about as good as his bowling skills.
Perhaps professional politicians and pundits should stick to what they are good at and leave the public comedy to professional comedians. If they insist on trying to impress us with their meager comedic skills, it would be better if they would stick to self depreciating humor and just make fun of themselves. Once they’ve mastered that, they will hopefully be studied enough to impress us with other forms of comedy.
Of course, not all pundits and politicians are lame when it comes to humor. Radio talk show host Dennis Miller is frequently funny and knows better than to cross that fine line where a comedic comment becomes an asshole’s gaff. Perhaps Bill O’Reilly might be better off if he would spend some time studying the comedic skills of his pal Dennis Miller, instead of trying to keep up with them.
John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan not only knew how to make people laugh, they also knew how to use humor as powerful persuasion in furtherance of their political agendas. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also quite good at comedy and is skillful with its political use. Of course Schwarzenegger was adept at comedy long before he ran for public office.
Ann Coulter, who proudly claims membership in the small band of what she calls “blond right wing pundits,” is sometimes very funny but more often than not, comes across as a blond asshole. Coulter (who apparently talks to God), once commented, “God said, Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it! It’s yours.” Coulter also said, “I was going to have a few words about John Edwards but you have to go into rehab if you use the word faggot.” Coulter even said, “Women like Pamela Harriman and Patricia Duff are basically Anna Nicole Smith from the waist down. Let’s call it for what it is. They’re whores.”
In an article titled, “My Beef With Ann Coulter,” Meghan McCain wrote, “More so than my ideological differences with Ann Coulter, I don’t like her demeanor. Everything about her is extreme. Maybe her popularity stems from the fact that watching her is something like watching a train wreck.”
Regarding Coulter, I agree with Meghan McCain. I also believe Coulter is a bad girl who deserves to have her bare ass spanked! Perhaps in public. Someday, Coulter may regret having said, “I have to say, I’m all for public flogging.”
