Archive for July, 2010Its been a few months since I signed in and made my thoughts known. To tell the truth, I’d write my Congressman but that would be an exercise in futility, as anyone who has written their Congressman about anything would understand. At most we can expect a form letter signed with an auto pen, which means he/she didn’t read it because they are too busy with backroom deals or lunching with lobbiests. They are NOT attending to business which is addressing the concerns of their constituents. Big deal, we vote them into office but special interests make them rich. That shouldn’t surprise any of us. I’m not duped with town hall meetings, special news letters, emails or special appeal letters for money. I usually delete emails or anything that comes over the internet from my Congressman. At times, I’d like to delete him, erase, never to be heard from again but every two, or four, years he pops up again begging for money to help defeat those damn Democrats (or Republicans). All this while I’m struggling to make ends meet on a fixed income while supporting my daughter and two grand kids. I’m here to tell you, its damn tough and I know millions of other Americans is in the same boat with little relief in sight. And now Congress wants to extend the tax breaks for the upper crust, those making millions, and sock us with the tab. I have one question: just where do you think that money will come from? Do I let my car go and take the bus? How about rent? My landlord doesn’t want excuses, he wants his money. And let’s not forget that age long habit of eating, something politicians seem to think we don’t do on a regular basis. Like that old joke goes: just about the time the farmer broke his dog of eating, it up and died on him. Now we have the gulf oil leak, going on three months and counting. Obama wants BP to pay all expenses for the cleanup, until they reach the cap for damages and then BP will simply walk away, leaving us the mess to clean up. Congress holds hearing, Congressmen tour the affected areas, shaking their heads and ask how it happened. We can tell them how, they were in bed with the oil companies and let them write the rules for drilling, same as the pharmaceutical companies wrote the drug prescription plan and health care companies wrote the health care plan. Now that everything is coming back to bite them in the posterior, they’re pointing fingers and swearing that they had nothing to do with it. Its all King Bush’s fault. Yea, like when pig’s fly. The Tea party blames the Democrats, the Democrats blame the Republicans and the Republicans blame the liberals and conservatives. Listen up folks, there’s enough blame to go around so don’t fight over who is to blame because we blame all of you for not doing your job. That’s right, you were so busy keeping your jobs that you failed to do your job. The time for placing blame is over, time to put aside your differences and do what is for for America, if you can do that. If you can’t we’ll elect someone who can go in there and shake up the status quo. But is it too late? almost but the situation can be salvaged with hard work and bi-partisan cooperation. That means everyone working together for the common good, and that is not your good. The news is making a lot of noise about the upcoming November election, that the Republicans will reap a number of seats and take control of the House and Senate. I’d just like to see someone in there doing their job. |
