I am just one of millions of Americans barely surviving on a single income. I am retired, collecting Social Security, have my unemployed daughter and her two kids (6 and 4) living with me, not by choice but out of necessity, they simply had nowhere else to go. In the past year, my daughter has sent out hundreds of resumes and go on as many job interviews without success. I can’t fault her for not trying, she does but the jobs just aren’t there. I’ve applied for numerous jobs but who wants to hire a 65 year old man? Right, no one, I’m past my prime and set in my ways but I’ve heard that you can teach an old dog new tricks and I’m willing but employers aren’t.

For the past year, I’ve managed to shuffle bills around and still pay them all but now I’ve come to a cross roads where bills add up to more than I have coming in. Right now I have $400 sitting in my checking account, $750 worth of bills staring at me, two weeks before I have a small pension hit my account, the frig is empty, the grand kids are hungry, they have activities at school and in Cub Scouts, my car needs gas and I’m out of coffee. Which comes first? I’m sure millions of Americans are facing that same dilemma, scratching their heads and screaming in frustration. And, as many have already done, considered suicide as a way out. Yes, numerous families have committed mass suicide, wife, kids and father, all gone in the blink of an eye. Its tragic and avoidable

The national debt is now $1.43 trillion, with a capital T, after billions went to AIG, banks, mortgage companies, car manufacturers and the health car industry, supposedly as a way to create jobs but he says give it time to work. It hasn’t happened yet. If I can believe the rumors circulating in the papers, there is another round of bailout funds in the offering but not one program going to help the truly needy because our good President Obama needs to prop up his buddies in big business first, give them their multi-million dollar bonuses and salaries before helping the American people. Obama has made the United States a debtor nation, all under the guise of helping our economy.

My back is against the wall, I’m caught between a rock and a hard place, at my wits end and I can see no way out of my situation in the foreseeable future. What am I to do? What do I tell my grand kids when their hungry and there’s nothing to eat? I’m numb from trying to explain my situation to the bill collectors, who call every day, and all I get in answer is, “Pay your f**king bills.” Won’t matter much longer for I can’t pay my phone bill either. Eating the business end of my shotgun is looking better and better every day, the only reason I don’t is my grand kids and how it would be explained to them. They are too young to have to live with that. So I will continue searching for a way out of my situation and pray that millions of others in like situations can also. Anyone for Powerball?

You see them everywhere people with signs and bible verse with sayings like Marriage IS one man and one woman, FAMILY IS A MOM AND A DAD and my personal favorite Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve plus all  the other ones these people come up with. Their mission is to stop two people from living their lives together and break up loving families because it’s an abomination of THEIR belief system. Their weapons are arguments like marriage is a sacred ancient institution between ONE man and ONE woman and it’s thousands of years old. That with out traditional families America will fall to ruin and the whole world will come crashing down around our ears. Well I’m hear to tell you the idea of marriage, monogamous marriage, one man one woman is a MAN MADE CROCK OF SHIT!!!

First off lets just deal with the idea of a single partner for the rest of your life. Some of these people would have you believe that one on one marriage is as old as the bible. That it’s a sacred institution formed by God himself. WRONG! Does anyone recall that passage in the bible where God had Adam and Eve stand side by side and say By the power given to me by me I now pronounce you man and wife I really don’t. Would everyone like the idea of monogamous relationships got introduced into Christianity. Let’s take a trip back to the time of Charlemagne. This guy was the shit he did more than anyone else to pull Europe out of the dark ages and get it back on track of science and learning. He was also a Christian and had 4 wives 27 concubines 46 mistresses and a large variety of dairy girls working the land outside of his castle. I mean this guy would put Wilt Chamberland to SHAME! Why could he get away with this that’s because there was NOTHING IN THE BIBLE that you could only have a relationship with one other person. That concept was introduced by Pope Leo a few years after Charlemagne’s death. He said that all coupling will be between one man and one woman. They will be married for life and have no others and that before they couple they will have to be joined in the eyes of the lord and of course this can only be accomplished by paying a fee to your local clergy.

Leviticus Oh yes chapter 22 of Leviticus well I don’t want to debate the bible all that much in this post all I’ll say is this. Did anyone bother to read the rest of Leviticus because you better throw out all of your dress shirts because it tells us in that chapter that you can’t wear cloth of two different threads. Also if you enjoy sweet corn in the summer than you’re going to hell because two different seeds sown together is right up there with man lying with man.

Without both a mother and a father children will grow up wrong and morally bankrupt leading them to a life of crime and sin. Well now isn’t this just silly and once again I can prove it. How many times do you hear, read or see a news story about some parent who did something horrible to their child and predominately guess what their a family with a dad and a mom. And how many times have you heard of a gay and lesbian couple doing that. I can recall ONE instance involving two lesbians beating the shit out of their kid. Now what’s the reason for this statistic well gay and lesbian parents are generally older and have really thought it out with their partner when they either adopt or have kids because there’s really no chance of them having a unwanted or unexpected pregnancy. Plus the rates of the kids raised by same sex parents going gay or lesbo is the exact same as kids raised by straight parents.

Gay marriage will cause divorce REALLY! I don’t know where they got this but divorce is not a new concept. Plus I don’t know what statistics you’re reading but the gay and lesbian community are actually not that large when compared with the rest of the US. I would actually be shocked if they made up more than 1 or 2 percent of the population

I think I’m going to stop here, there might be a part two I don’t really know. I just find it hypocritical that people use a religion that’s basic command is to love and have compassion forEVERYONE. To use that as a platform to deny people the same rights that you enjoy under the law is simply staggering. I mean didn’t Jesus spend his time healing the sick and helping the desperate. Didn’t he also embrace the prostitute Didn’t he embrace everyone no matter what! Here’s a thought READ THE DAMN BOOK BEFORE YOU USE THAT AS AN ARGUMENT! 

 A little about me is that I was raised with a mom and a dad, they were married a few years before I was born. I have a good relationship with both of them and they’re still together. I am not gay myself honestly I can’t even tell you what attracts women to men. Let alone a man to another man. I CAN tell you why a chick would want to screw another chick. Yet even though I’m straight and both my parents were together for all of my life I can still sit here and say to everyone who says marriage or family is One MAN one WOMAN is shoveling a great big CROCK OF SHIT!!!!

Have you ever considered why some people can be paid thousands of dollars for a speaking engagement and others not? $30,000 for a thirty minute speech seems ridiculous to most of us yet former politicians and sports figures have no problem doing it. Some columnists have the same problem, fitting all the speaking engagements into their busy schedule while maintaining their real job. Former presidents seem to have a lock on the six figure speaking fees but former President Ronald Reagan holds the record with a $2,000,000 fee from China. Did it matter that he signed a bill giving China “favored” trade status just before leaving office? Of course it didn’t. (wink, wink)

We have spewers of filth selling out to large audiences just to hear them, i.e. Glenn Beck. Former President Clinton has a speaking engagement a month for big bucks. Guess he didn’t like the idea of Hillary being the sole bread winner. Carl Rove is still in demand, as is many CEOs. So I’ve been thinking (I know, bad for the mental health) why some people can say anything and its repeated worldwide but let Joe Q. Public say something and he’s whistling to the wind but Mr. Public has something to say that’s worthwhile, at least to me.

I’ve come to the conclusion that name recognition has something to do with it. When one of the news agencies wants a quote, they pay someone to say it and don’t think they don’t. I’ll admit that I have a name that isn’t recognized even in the town I live in but there are a few readers of my blogs that do recognize it and I thank you for that. I’ve had several glowing responses to my blogs and I even have a few followers (not family). I’ve written several books that were never published and many magazine articles that were; I’ve lost count on how many but my first one was in True West, 1975. I guess if I had put as much effort in publishing as I did practicing the electrical trade, I’d have name recognition but being a construction electrician paid more. I can’t complain, I made a good living (as my ex-wife can attest to with all the credit card bills she ran up) and have many good stories about the trade and construction in general.

But now as I’ve reached 65 years old, yes I’m that old (or young depending on frame of mind), I’ve been thinking about just what I’m leaving behind when I do go (hopefully not for a very long time yet), how people will remember me. I’ve outlived most of my friends, some I’ve known for more than 40 years, and miss them all. I have one friend left and he’s 75 and on his last legs. We still talk occasionally but he has a difficult time remembering me and most times don’t. We’ve both been there for each other, through hard times and good and I’ll always remember the good times. My published articles have since been shoved into the graveyard and can’t be found but I remember them and plan to write a few more in the coming months, right after I move yet again.

I’ve even thought about writing a book about my life (I had one comment that the writer would like to read it), started it a few times but keep putting it off. Now all I hope is that I can finish it and maybe one day my grand kids will read it and say “I remember grandpa and I miss him.” I can’t say that I’ve led an interesting life but I can say that I’ve led a full one. I’ve experienced most of what I’ve wanted to do and there are a few I’d still like to do. I’ve experienced war, love, hate, racism, bigotry, I’ve been broke and had money to spend and through it all, I’ve driven Chevy trucks. There is one thing I can say with utmost confidence, I’ve never written a lie, everything I’ve written has been true and I have believed what I’ve written. There’s been a few times that I’ve wanted to lambaste someone for their asinine statements but I’ve held my tongue for they have a right to their opinion even if I didn’t agree with them.

Perhaps its because someone is ready to slander and defame someone else is the reason their lectures are in demand, just not by me. I prefer to form my own opinions and thoughts, uninfluenced by someone else. My opinion of Barrack Obama was that he was being handled from the sidelines and I was right. His actions of the past eight months has proven that he has to repay someone for his being elected and is doing so at the expense of the American taxpayer. I’d love for someone to pay me $30,000 for a 45 minute speech but there a very slim chnace of that. Maybe in my next life time.

I see the story today about Kanye West and it disgusts me. What ever hapened to modesty? I remember as a kid watching Steve Largent (Seattle Seahawks receiver, Hall of Fame member) getting touchdown after touchdown, and what would he do? Either set the ball down or walk over and hand it to a ref. Asked why no “celebrations”?…(these are my words, but close enough) “because It (the catch) didn’t win a Super Bowl, and It looks like I’ve been there before” (in other words it was no big deal)…now THAT is cool, classy. This crap of looking around for cameras and pulling a sharpie out of your sock to sign a football on national tv isn’t just UNcool, it’s sickening. If you’re good, people will appreciate it, but this ME ME ME stuff..look at ME. I’m sick of it. It’s a darn shame… Ok, I feel better now..hehe…

Colorado has a “Make My Day” law. In a nut shell, it simply means that you won’t be prosecuted for defending your home, your family or your life with deadly force. It doesn’t mean that you can chase the suspect down in the street and kill him, as one homeowner did. It does mean that if someone breaks into your home with the intent to do you and your family bodily harm and rob you, the homeowner can use deadly force. In other words, blow them out of their socks. While I would prefer to cause them great bodily harm, I would not hesitate to open up with my shotgun at close range. This has two advantages; 1) it is a final solution to a home robbery and 2) the suspect can’t come back and sue for damages (that’s been done on numerous occasions).

While Colorado doesn’t have the shootouts in the streets like some Texas border towns do, we do have our share of home invasions by scumbags looking for easy pickings. I realize that the police can’t be everywhere at all times (they get there after the fact most times), it is realistic that the homeowner be prepared to protect themselves against any eventuality. I have my shotgun handy but I also have my walking stick, a six foot length of Aspen, hard as a rock and can break an arm or bust a head in one easy swing. To quote an old saying, “I’d rather be judged by twelve of my peers than be carried by six of my friends.”

The bad guys of today are getting younger and younger, knowing they can’t be tried as an adult and most likely, at the most, be sentenced to a juvenile detention center until they are twenty-one, will be released and out on the streets to continue their life of crime, often with an advanced degree in crime. Whenever I move into a new place, I always make sure that the neighbors know that I’m armed and will use my firearms; I’ve seldom had trouble from the local hoods. If I’m forced to use deadly force, I won’t apologize for doing so, I won’t feel sorry that someone is dead and I won’t apologize to his family for the loss of their child. They raised him, saw where he was heading and did nothing to turn him around. Some will see that attitude as callus and uncaring. Far from it, I care but my family comes first. If the cops can’t handle the crime rate, it is up to the individual to be prepared to do so and just call them to haul away the trash.

On a national scale, the crime rate has increased, in spite of what the Justice Department says, and more and more homeowners are being caught in the middle. We’ve been told to just call the police and let them handle it but while you’re on the phone, they’re breaking in and terrorizing your family. I have a shotgun and they have automatic weapons, like bringing a knife to a gunfight. Very unequal, unless the shotgun is loaded with turkey loads. That’s nine pieces of lead the size of a small ball bearing going out at over 1,000 ft per second. Now that can do some serious damage and discourage any intruder because they want to rob, not be killed.

We don’t live in the Old West any longer, we’re supposed to be a civilized nation of laws but the only law to date that makes any sense is the Make My Day law. More and more gun laws are passed each day and not one does any good because the criminals ignore them and they just take away yet another right of the law abiding citizen. I, for one, will not live scared in my home behind locked doors and shuttered windows. I will not be made to live in fear of venturing outside and enjoying life. And I refuse to relie on someone who won’t be there in my time of need to protect me and my family, I’ll do it myself and explain later.

Why am I ranting about this subject? because crime is hitting closer and closer to home. A new neighbor just moved in next door and while they were gone, someone broke in and stole a couple of TVs and a laptop computer (I could have told them it was unsafe to live here but they didn’t ask). I don’t believe that I could live anywhere that is completely safe and no one in their right mind would think so either. All one can do is make their home as safe as possible and refuse to live in fear. To that end, I keep my shotgun handy and loaded.

You don’t have to tell me that things are bad out there. Everyone knows that things are bad out there. Everyone is scared of losing their jobs or having the company they work for go belly up or having the fucking bank throw them out on the street. This is not even counting the stress that you feel when the grocery bill goes up and what you get keeps going down. Topple on that all the other expenses that make life possible and hell if you didn’t have a stress relief most of us would probably go nuts.

Now for I’d say 60% of us we do a little activity called DRINKING to relive stress. But now the morality police want to take that away from us and it can cost you your job to! Now I’m NOT talking about people that drink on the job, that’s just plainly stupid and they should be fired for that. I’m talking about when the working day’s over you’ve clocked out gone home changed and get with friends for a night on the town.

So you go out to your favorite bar, watering hole, club or night spot. And you have some drinks laughs and a good time. One of your friends is snapping photos and gets one or two of you haveing some drinks or dancing with someone a little more provocatively then what they showed on the Lawrence Welk show. Your friend inadvertently posts the photos to myspace or the big one facebook. The next morning you wake up you don’t have a hangover and your ready to go for the day. When you get to work you’re called into your bosses office where he tells you you’ve been fired and you notice on the screen is your facebook page!

This scenario is happening more and more across the country and espically for applicants. First off why is it any one’s business what you do when you’re off the clock. Second why are bosses so concerned with the activities of their employees when they’re off the clock! ESPCACIALLY if what they did the night before has no effect on their JOB PREFORMANCE! So what now I’m supposed to be a professional 24/7 and have no fun. Never let my hair down so that in twenty years I have a heart attack because of unreleased stress, just because someone on the morality police busted me living a little.

 Now to the people that say “You don’t need achool to relive stress” or “There are better ways of getting in a good mood than booze” I say your right you don’t need achool to relieve stress and there’s probably a few better ways. But I’ll be goddamned if a ice cold beer or rum and coke dosen’t knock the day’s edge off quicker than anything I know. Plus on that note what I do away from work and in my own PRIVATE LIFE! is really no one else’s concern but mine now isn’t it! Of course these people have  a very funny concept of privacy

So here’s what I want people to do I want them to write in and tell their congressman to get a law passed that says when people are off the clock they have the right to do what they want with their time OFF!!! Or do what I do and get people together to go out for drinks guess what your boss will probably be a drinking man himself!

You know, Mark Harmon, I really used to like you. You always seemed to be the affable, laid back guy. Your first big impression on me was one of my favorite classic summer 80s film, Tuff Turf. Er, no wait a minute, my bad, wrong movie. No, your first big role to me was Summer School. What a great movie, and those of you old enough to remember it probably to this day wonder whatever happened to the lovable Chainsaw. Or the kid who never showed up to class. That was a great movie, and I am sure Mark counted himself lucky to be acting with a young Courtney Thorne-Smith and a pre elephantine Kirstie Alley. Even Saw cutie Shawnee Smith was in this flick. Day-um, stupid girls sure were hot back in the day

He would continue through more TV and movie roles. He married –and apparently is still married to-Mindy from Mork & Mindy. He was voted People’s Sexiest Man Alive in n1986, the year People also suspiciously disqualified me, for some bullshit reason of ‘not being even remotely famous’. Fuckers. Anyway, Harmon all but disappeared from my consciousness, to be replaced by such happy things as orange creamsicles and Tetris.

Recently, Mark Harmon has reappeared in my life in a big and negative way. In fact, I now hate you, Mark Harmon. I see entirely too much of you. Apparently, he’s been on this show called NCIS, which I believe stands for ‘now can I speak’. And this show, unbeknownst to me, has been on the air for quite a few years. I didn’t know this until the show started rerunning on USA. I know all of this because my wife is addicted to this goddamn show.

At first it was just on USA and whatever other channel it first airs on. Life was good, life was tolerable. But that has all changed over the last year. Now, NCIS is omnipresent in my house. We have 3 TVs in the house. At any given time, all of them are on channel 13 (aka USA, aka NCIS central). This pisses me off more than when they all used to be on the Food Channel. It’s not like she ever made me any of that stuff…

Since then, I have clearly been put in my place. I know between the hours of 5-7, I am second fiddle. I am third wheel. The house can be on fire, and upon telling her this fact, I will get scolded, “WAIT FOR A COMMERCIAL!” If this was only contained to scheduled intervals, I am laid back and accommodating enough to work around it. Hell, I’ll even give her the big TV-you know, the B&W one-to watch all the nefarious goings ons going on. But it has grown worse. It appears NCIS spreads quicker than the swine flu.

Now it seems NCIS is on 4 channels that I am aware of. Which I believe still pales in comparison to how many fucking channels show Scrubs. That was her previous crack TV. I think I’ve counted Scrubs on no less than 6 fucking channels. It’s now gotten to the point that I can watch Scrubs rather than NCIS. But Elliot is still fucking annoying.

Also, USA appears to be so devoid of alternate programming, test patterns and infomercials that it now runs NCIS marathons. So imagine my shock as all day yesterday-a Wednesday-USA went all NCIS. Surely somewhere, there must be unaired Billy Mays commercials. Fuck me. I’ve arrived at the point where I am familiar with the characters and certain storylines. Me. But she can sit there and watch the whole damn thing all over again. Yesterday, I hit a new low. “We” were watching the show, and about 15 minutes in, I realized I fucking saw this show before. Yet, her gaze was the gaze of a traveler spotting water after a week in the desert. Ambrosia to the angels and such shit.

I don’t like the show, for a few reasons. Chief amongst them is she likes it so goddamn much. But there’s more to it than just that. (And I am ashamed I can go into this much detail of a show I don’t even watch.) First of all, Mark Harmon’s character is named Jethro. Right, Jethro. That’s his first name, too, not his last. It’s hard to buy an action hero as a ‘Jethro’. A Clampett? Sure, but not a federal agent. Unless he was the federal agent of moonshine. So Gibbs (Jethro’s last name, the name most people use to call him.) is one of those smarmy types that is always fucking right. What’s that? All the evidence points to the husband as the killer? No, because Gibbs is Gibbs, he has some sort of ESP that actually tells him the real killer is the neighbors’ gardeners’ cousins’ eighth grade teacher! Alas, how could we not have seen this? We all must bow to the knowingness of brother Gibbs. Gibbs always knows where the bad guy is hiding.

Gibbs is a maverick. Gibbs will only use your last name, even if it’s Gibbsisapedophile. OK, that was a funny episode. Gibbs thumbs his nose at his superiors, he disobeys orders, he ‘goes dark’. I believe he even has a pristine copy of that Erin Andrews video. Gibbs can anticipate the bad guys’ next move. Gibbs is a deadeye. Gibbs. Gibbs, Gibbs, Gibbs. Enough fucking already!

Sure, he is surrounded by less smart characters as well. There’s the suave guy, the nerd guy, the chick, the goth forensic chick, the weathered coroner. Every week, it’s a new struggle against evil. And my sanity. I don’t like the slickness of Gibbs. It gets quite tiresome to see the same general scenario week in and week out. Right, I can see all of you rolling your eyes-you know your webcam is on, right?-thinking, “Well what about your hero, Jack Bauer?”Jack Bauer is far more hardcore than fucking Gibbs. Take away seasons 5 & 6 (please) of 24, and 24 is the far better show.

But, boom there is NCIS on just about every damn channel we have. Look, we’re poor, we just have basic cable. And at the rate they’re taking away my channels, we’ll be lucky to have 20 left. And Mark Harmon will be on at least 5 of those. Maybe my wife snuck in some sort of NCIS channel unbeknownst to me. All I know is I have 20 channels-16 if you take away the Spanish speaking ones-and I am pretty sure I’ve seen NCIS on 4 of them. And one of the Spanish ones. Eh, Senor Gibbs?

I can see by the hour upon us, that soon, the NCIS channel will be on, and any actual conversation must take place between the commercials. Even if it’s a rerun. Even if it’s a rerun I’ve seen, I’d best not spoil the ending. Sure, you can argue the same thing with me and The Simpsons. Yes, true, I’ve seen the majority of the shows, but not all of them. And since it’s only a half hour long, I get 2 episodes for the price of one measly NCIS. Plus, with all my drinking, my memory is spotty, so sometime it really is like watching a brand new episode. And it’s all about escapism for me; it makes me laugh, and my troubles vanish for a brief, fleeting amount of time. Besides, if Gibbs ever got bonked on the head with a transmission, I would laugh my ass off.

Yes a man who was light years ahead of his time penned this opening to one of the MOST influential documents ever written in history.

Sadly, today this means nothing to the elected officials governing our once great country. No it didn’t start sliding downhill when the Novelty Obama-nation uttered the statement, “We live in the greatest country in the world; help me change it, but that non hacker sure as fuck hasn’t HELPED things out a whole lot has he?

Motherfuckers (and father fuckers for you ladies who feel left out when I say it) Are lining up to defend this shitbird with statements like “No one can expect him to deliver on all of his campaign promises”. Then WHY the FUCK was he elected by a majority vote? If it doen’t matter what they say, why aren’t we picking a President’s name out of a fucking Fez? (Yeah a turban would just be a freaking hand towel with a bunch of clumps of paper inside it wouldn’t it?)

I’m getting off track here. HEALTH CARE for ALL should be FOR all not just one for us and one for them. I’f I’m having their shit crammed down my throat then at least tell me that they are getting the same lack of condiments that I am. REGULATIONS and REFORM are what the current System needs and not a Socialist, Eastern Block replacement for it.

While we’re at it, lets think about this. Nancy Pelosi and the fucking DNC is all over this shit about Leveling out the WEALTH of the nation. Lets call this what it REALLY is. They want You and I to be in the poorest 85% of the nation so THEY can be in the RICHEST 15% (if they will allow that many people to be as “privileged” as they are for being good enough to get you fucking moronic, mouth breathing masses to vote them into office.

“From Each According to His Abilities and To Each According to His Needs” is the mantra that these fuckaholics are chanting and the Public is chewing that up like it is a NEW concept. Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov brought forth REFORM via these means in a little place that used to be called Russia with these EXACT words.

Our Wages and Income are being attacked, we are being led like lambs to the slaughter and the apathy and brainwashing that our leaders MUST be right just because they hold that position is sickening.

We are soon going to need a Revolution to get the Government out of our wallets, schools, and privacy of our own bedrooms because the MASSES can no longer think for themselves or ask the simple questions and react to the answers that are given to them rather than just going with the flow.

I can no longer sit idly by and watch the destruction of the greatest nation in the world. Who has the guts to speak out with me?

The answer is simple - we don’t contribute enough money to reelection campaigns for our concerns to matter. I base this on several news sources but mainly on my personal observations of my elected representatives, both in Congress and the House. It has been documented that six of the Senators responsible for hammering out a new health care bill have accepted $11.5 million from pharmaceutical companies, others just haven’t been found out yet. Something new? No, this has been going on for many years and has cost Americans billions in excess dollars, billions that has gone into many pockets.

Take the Veterans Affairs (VA) for example. This one government health organization, responsible for caring for this nation’s war veterans, has overspent billions of dollars on medications for one simple reason - they are prevented, by Congress, to negotiate for lower prices based on their volume of buying. This one act alone would save taxpayers billions of dollars, dollars that could go toward improving the level of health care. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand why; our so-called representatives have been bribed to vote against any such act. Those are strong words and could get me into hot water but they need to be spoken, loudly and often.

Our government is corrupt, not above selling Americans down the river in order to increase their personal wealth, too many Congressmen, and women, have been caught accepting bribes for the truth to be otherwise. Corruption runs rampart in Washington, D.C. and has for many years. Each year we hear vows of cleaning it up but it never happens because it is so deeply ingrained that it is almost impossible to stop. Perhaps the one most important act that could happen is to outlaw lobbying in any form, except by the voters; let the American public be heard instead of big business and special interests. Has anyone heard of even one Congressman/woman leaving office poor? Of course not because most leave office millionaires, if they weren’t before entering office. They certainly weren’t frugal with their pay and wisely invested it but accepted money under the table for their vote, they just didn’t get caught doing it.

Just what can we, the American People, do about this, including the above suggestion? Demand accountability from our elected representatives in every aspect of their Congressional duties. demand explanations as to why they voted as they did, party lines be damned, was it the right thing to do. How did it benefit the American people, the ones who has to pay for every program they enact? I’d like to see a report card on each and every one of them at six month increments instead of two and four years, at election time. If they aren’t doing their job, then they are recalled, out of office, fired, canned, terminated. But will that happen, no. But we can always hope.

It’s been a while since I’ve been here to spread my insights of great ponderence, but this made me take pause and write.  So, a potentially racist situation goes down that results in a man’s arrest and Barack Obama immediately comes to the defense of his friend…Yale Professor of African Studies, Henry Louis Gates in the midst of the frey.

It has been an unnecessary crap storm if you will, that Obama has backed himself into regarding this incident having not been availed of the proper facts.  I’ve heard it said that there were mostly egos involved that got out of hand.  It is more a case of ONE ego, that of Professor Gates.  As the police reports have stated, Gates became belligerent the moment the white officer (there was also a black and Hispanic officer on the scene, as well) began asking routine questions that one would ask on a B&E (breaking and entering) call (i.e. Is there anyone else in the house? May we look around?, etc.).  These are all standard procedure for a call of this nature.  However, the YALE professor felt it beneath him to be questioned in any manner regarding suspicion of any kind. The “educated” and I believe correct response would have been…”Thank you for coming to my home when called in regard to something this serious. Certainly, you may check around. I’m happy to do whatever I can to help rectify any misunderstanding by the neighbor as well as the police department. In fact, I probably should thank the neighbor for his conscientiousness, as well.”

Instead, he was most likely irritable when the officers arrived, having been absent minded enough to lock himself out of his home. That disgruntled attitude (coupled with a predisposition toward racism as an African Studies Prof.) then manifest itself in the form of indignant arrogance toward an innocent officer who was simply trying to do his job.  In order for this to be even remotely considered racial profiling, Gates would have to have been randomly stopped.  This was a B&E call, plain and simple.  When the officer asked for Gates’ ID, he went ballistic prior to complying with the officer’s request. Then the officer was satisfied and began to leave with the other officers and Gates continued to berate and malign the officer all the way to the front door with racial epithets. The officer warned him to let it go and asked him to stand down.  Gates refused and the officer took out his cuffs and warned him a last time.  Gates, was relentless and as a result was arrested.  The only reason that the charges were dropped, in my opinion, is because not only was race introduced (by Gates) but also, because he is a high profile individual. It’s bad press for the department any way you look at it and the higher ups don’t need Obama’s camp looking down at their fair city.  They had no choice, even though it would have been a simple misdemeanor.

Adding insult to injury, Obama proceeded to call the officer “stupid” without having read even so much as a newsclipping on the incident.  The educated and proper response here, in my opinion, should have been…”I have not read the police report on the incident so, I won’t speculate and will reserve my comments until such time.”  His arrogance wouldn’t let him do that.  Instead, he chose to get out ahead of the situation and make it about defense of a friend over defense of the facts.

In closing, what this said to me is that both Gates and his buddy Barack arrogantly overstated their cases.  It continues to be revealed that Obama has some pretty outspoken friends (Rev. Wright, communist party devotees, etc.).  Being outspoken is not a bad thing in and of itself, mind you.  However, the destructive words of an outspoken person who is not intent on speaking words that teach, heal or inform for the progression and edification of the whole over self…is quite dangerous.  This further indicates to me that birds of a feather flock together. These “friends” of Obama’s that continue to pop up can only cause one to think…Who is the real man beneath the spit and polished President?  Is there an outspoken radical buried someplace deep down in there who thinks that every irresponsible, harsh and divisive situation can be excused and brushed off by simply sitting down and sharing a beer together?  Great idea, until the beer starts talking…then what?  Seriously, though, Obama and other educated black men such as himself have a huge responsibility to speak intelligently to such issues as racism…not perpetuate its destructiveness themsevles by viewing every given incident from a racially-motivate point of view absent of the facts.
